Funding Opportunities

20+ EPSRC studentships covering tuition fees and an enhanced maintenance grant of £16,500 per year are available to the best UK applicants. If you wish to be considered for the award of a studentship, please make this clear on your application.

An EU student may also qualify for one of these studentships if they satisfy both of the following UK Government rules:

• You will have been ordinarily resident in the UK for the three years immediately prior to the start of your doctoral studies (time spent studying in the UK can be counted as being ordinarily resident here).
• You have a relevant connection with the UK (it is in some sense already your home).

For EU students who do not meet the above criteria EPSRC funding may be used to cover fees. Alternative funding for maintenance would need to be found from an alternative source.

For other students from outside the EU funding through the DTC is extremely limited.

A new EPSRC rule allows 1 studentship to be offered to an exceptional student of any citizenship to include maintenance grant and fees at the EU rate. Awards under the new rule are competitive and early application is advised.
